The Henry County Board of Commissioners held a joint meeting with the Henry County Board of Education at 6:30 p.m., on Thursday, April 26, 2007, at the Henry County Administration Building, 140 Henry Parkway, McDonough, Georgia.  Notice of this meeting was posted in the foyer of the Henry County Administration Building.  The Daily Herald was notified of this meeting.  Those present were:

Chairman Harper called the meeting to order.  Commissioner Holder made a motion to accept the agenda; Commissioner Stamey seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

1.                  Update on transportation/road improvement projects as they relate to schools

§         North Moseley Road (Woodland Schools) – The project is complete.  There will be a ribbon cutting ceremony on May 8th at 9:00 a.m.

§         Bethlehem Road Project (Bethlehem Elementary) – the Contract has been awarded and a notice to proceed will be issued to the contractor on Monday, April 30, 2007.  Notices of road closures have been issued.  The projected completion time for this project is August, 2007.

§         North Ola Road Widening Project (Ola Schools) – The entire project (including signalization) is estimated to be complete this summer (June or July). 

§         Walker Drive / Highway 155 Project (Luella Schools) – Funding was reallocated by Commissioner Mathis to prioritize this project.  There are two options regarding this project: 1) Leave Walker Drive at the current location or 2) Realign Walker Drive to the south.  Request for proposals regarding this project has been issued. 

§         North Mt. Carmel Road / Jonesboro Road (Mt. Carmel / Dutchtown Schools) – intersection improvements are currently under construction; signalization approval is pending.

2.                  Projected increase in the County Tax Digest

§         8% increase on the overall digest.

3.                  Renewal of the County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST)

§         The SPLOST Oversight Committee is meeting to formulate the projects that will be presented on the ballot.  Currently there are no projects listed; no decisions have been made.

F.                  Board of Education and Dr. Parish

1.                  Update on school construction projects

§         2007/2008 School Year

ü      Woodland Schools – A certificate of Occupancy has been issued for the Elementary School and a CO is expected to be issued by the end of May for the Middle and High Schools. 

ü      Walnut Creek Elementary –Expected to be complete by the end of May.

ü      Bethlehem Elementary – Expected to be complete by July 1st.


§         2008/2009 School Year

ü      Tussahaw Elementary and Rock Springs Elementary are projected to open August, 2008.

§         Henry County High School Renovation and Expansion

§         Locust Grove High and Middle Schools (August 2009)

§         Elementary School located in the Highway 81 West area – currently searching for property

§         Elementary School in the Jodeco Road area (August 2010)

§         Kelleytown Elementary School (August 2011)

§         Middle & High School located in the Highway 81 West area (2011)

§         Elementary School in the South West portion of the County

§         Elementary School in the Peeksville Road area

3.                  Setting date, time, and location for next joint meeting

§         The next meeting is schedule July 26th at 6:30 p.m. at the Administration Building, 140 Henry Parkway.
